Starting Maya and Basic Tools


Today I started learning one of the basic tools in Maya, I learnt how to remove the faces of shapes.  It was actually a very simple process, I simple set my square to face mode then selected the remove face tool from the tool bar.

This then removed the face on my square.

Pillar Ideas


After giving it some thought I have decided that I am not going to create just a standard pillar, but instead I am going to try and be a little different and create a billboard as my pillar.  As I will be importing this model into a UDK level that I have made it made sense to create a billboard as my level in UDK is a skyscraper.  I could place my billboard on the top of my skyscraper, on the side of my skyscraper or on the ground in front of my skyscraper.  Alternatively I could have made something completely different in Maya that would have suited my level just as will like a fountain for the lobby of the skyscraper, or a beam for one of the floors, or even a giant villainous looking chair for the board room on the top floor or maybe a helicopter pad for the roof.  I do however feel I’ve made the right choice by creating a billboard as I feel it will stand out from other pillar shaped models and hopefully make me stand out.

Starting Maya


Today I will be starting a new assignment.  I this assignment I will be creating a pillar like model using Maya.  I’ve never actually used Maya before so I am very enthusiastic about this assignment.  Throughout this process I will learn to use various tools in Maya which will help me create my pillar and blog everything that I have learnt.  The first thing I need to do is think about what kind of pillar I want to create.
